On Sunday, March 19th, I volunteered at the Zurich Marató Barcelona 2023. I had the opportunity to accompany the audiovisual team of Nike and YoPRO on Yamaha Motor España S.A. motorcycles.
During the event, our task was to closely follow the astonishing achievement of Alex Roca Campillo as he completed the 42 kilometres of the marathon. Alex became the first runner with a 76% physical disability to finish a marathon, and he did it with an incredible time of 5 hours, 50 minutes, and 51 seconds.
To grasp the difficulty of this challenge, it’s essential to consider that according to RunRepeat, in 2019, only 1% of the world’s population, approximately 1.1 million people, managed to complete a marathon. Therefore, Alex’s feat is even more impressive, showcasing his incredible determination and strength.
